Fansipan Summit via Tram Ton

Distance: 12 km up /

24 km return on foot

Challenging

Ascent Time: 7 hours

Starts at 5:30 AM

This one-day trek is for travelers who want to reach the summit of Fansipan on foot in a single day. Starting from Tram Ton Pass, the route climbs through high mountain forest, dense vegetation, and steep terrain before reaching the summit. It is a long and demanding day in the mountains, best suited to fit travelers with previous hiking experience.

Itinerary

Early morning – Drive to Tram Ton Pass
We leave Sapa early in the morning and drive to Tram Ton Pass, where the trek begins near the forest ranger station.

Morning – Forest trail and mountain climb
From Tram Ton, the route follows the mountain trail upward through dense forest, crossing streams and passing through areas of old trees, moss-covered trunks, and thick mountain vegetation.

Late morning – High mountain terrain
As the climb continues, the trail becomes steeper and more exposed in parts. Depending on the season, you may see forest plants such as cardamom, bamboo shoots, and wild mushrooms along the way.

Early afternoon – Fansipan summit
The summit is usually reached in the early afternoon, depending on walking pace and weather conditions. At the top, there is time to rest, take photos, and have a picnic lunch.

Afternoon – Descent to Tram Ton
After lunch, we descend along the same trail back to Tram Ton Pass. The hiking route is approximately 12 km up to the summit, and the standard trek returns on foot, making it up to 24 km in total. If you prefer not to walk back down, you can take the cable car from the summit to Sapa. The cable car ticket is optional and not included in the trek price.

Return to Sapa
A car takes us back from Tram Ton Pass to Sapa, usually arriving in the afternoon.
